Great Western Electrification Project
Sector: Rail
Client: Amey Inabensa
Electrification of the Great Western Railway. As part of the project Readypower was awarded multiple subcontracts, one of which was for Newbury station canopy alterations and renewal including:
- Enabling and survey works
- Canopy alteration and removal
- New canopy modifications and install
Design Phase
During a 100hr blockade, Readypower undertook a full survey of the canopy and concurrently installed generic elements of steel work to facilitate the major canopy works to be carried out in a subsequent blockade. The decision was taken to install parts of the steelwork, prior to full survey and design, due to constrained timescales and available access. Whilst design was carried out independent of Readypower, temporary works design and supervision was part of the Readypower remit.
Construction Phase
The majority of the construction was undertaken in a 104 hour blockade. Due to the tight programme, Readypower mobilised 40 personnel for the back-to-back shifts along with specialist Road Rail Plant from Readypower Rail Services.
“I have been with Readypower for the last four weeks, I Just wanted to say well done to all involved, a lot has been achieved and safely, I’m impressed with how hard the teams worked, especially the high temperatures. Good management at work, and very good briefs every morning.”
