North West Electrification Programme
Sector: Rail
Client: Carillion / Balfour Beatty / Murphy
Electrification of various routes in the Northwest of England. As part of the project Readypower was awarded various subcontracts from Tier 1 contractors on the project. The scope of works was to install 1,676 OLE foundations as follows:
- 829 No. 610mm dia CHS piles
- 705 No. 1000mm concrete auger foundations
- 20 No. pre-cast gravity foundations
- 122 No. cast in-situ gravity foundations
- 45 metres of sheet piling enabling works
Construction Phase
The works were delivered primarily in non-disruptive possessions, 6 nights per week. To achieve the necessary output to hit key dates and commissioning dates, Readypower deployed 3 piling teams, 1 civils team and 1 logistics team. The teams were supported by a dedicated management team embedded into the clients project team. Reliable plant and haulage was key to the planned output but also to continuously manage the change on a daily basis, which resulted in heavy equipment being moved at last minute. Despite the challenges thrown up by the project and the departure of Tier 1 contractors, Readypower completed the scope for the Murphy Group in mid 2018.
“I really believe that the level of work here is what good looks like and if the remaining foundations, concrete and piles, are finished to this level and the spoil distributed in the same manner then we will have no issues with the handover to the maintainer.”
