PK Line Refurbishment

Sector: Power

Client: Balfour Beatty

Design and build contract for new piled foundations for replacement transmission tower PK132 (L4M D2 E3).

Design Phase

Due to the presence of poor ground conditions at site, a bespoke designed solution was required for a new transmission tower foundation, with minimal disruptive access. The approved solution utilised 4no. 10m long 610dia steel driven piles with internally fabricated shear rings, allowing the new tower stubs to be directly concreted into the tops of the piles.

Construction Phase

All works were completed in 7 days with no requirement of piling mats, or roadways required for access. Works were successfully delivered utilising internal resources with plant and transport being provided solely by Readypower Rail Services.
